West Bengal: BJP delegation visits Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district

A three-member BJP delegation, comprising party MPs SS Ahluwalia, Satya Pal Singh and VD Ram, today visited Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

Bhatpara has been marred by violence for past few weeks, where at least five people were killed since the declaration of Lok Sabha election results.

Two people were killed and several others injured on Thursday after clashes broke out between two groups suspected to be affiliated to the TMC and the BJP.

The BJP delegation met the families of victims and spoke to locals. Tension between the BJP and TMC has been rising constantly, which often turns violent.

The situation remained tense with prohibitory orders in force and huge police deployment in the area while 16 people were arrested in connection with the clashes.

BJP MP S S Ahluwalia accused the state government and the police of using brutal force against innocent people.

He also questioned the police claims of only resorting to aerial firing saying how the bullets hit people if that was the truth.S S Ahluwalia said that local BJP leaders are collecting funds to provide financial support to families of the victims and those affected in the violence.
